For the first time in Korowa’s 136 year history, VCE Dance has been added to the senior curriculum. A milestone for our Performing Arts offering and a powerful new pathway for students who love to move and create.
A strong foundation in dance from Year 7
At Korowa, Dance is already embedded in learning. All students in Years 5 - 8 study Dance as part of the core curriculum, developing foundational skills in technique, expression, and creative movement. These early experiences build confidence and artistic voice, providing a strong platform for students who choose to pursue Dance in the senior years.
What VCE Dance means for our students
VCE Dance gives senior students the opportunity to refine their skill, explore contemporary practice, and engage with movement as both an expressive art form and an academic study. It challenges them to think critically, perform with purpose, and understand dance as a way of knowing about themselves, their community, and the wider world.
Dance beyond the classroom
Dance at Korowa encourages creativity, confidence, and collaboration through rich performance experiences. Students have opportunities to take part in school productions, plays, dance showcases, and concerts, building skills both on and off the stage. These experiences strengthen teamwork, self belief, and presence, essential qualities for both performers and leaders.
Learning from industry professionals
To launch the program, we welcomed choreographer and director Ben Cure from Lion Heart Dance Company, who led a contemporary workshop with our VCE and Year 10 Dance students.Ben will work with students throughout the year, supporting the development of technique, artistry, and choreographing the students class dance piece. His industry experience brings real world insight into the classroom, challenging students to push boundaries and sharpen their practice.

The introduction of VCE Dance reflects Korowa’s commitment to providing diverse, meaningful senior pathways that honour student passions.
