A Global Education

Immersive learning

Our immersive learning experiences are designed to foster independence, build connections with teachers and peers, and cultivate a deeper relationship with the natural world. Through these adventures, students gain a greater sense of self-confidence, build community, develop leadership skills, and engage in a range of outdoor challenges and cultural experiences.

Outdoor Learning

A journey of growth

Learning comes alive when students step beyond the classroom. Our outdoor and immersive learning programs invite every student to challenge herself, connect deeply with others and develop a genuine relationship with the natural world.

Each experience, whether a first camp in the bush, our month-long wilderness journey Trek, or a cultural exchange abroad, encourages courage, curiosity and independence. Students learn through doing, reflect through teamwork, and return with confidence that lasts a lifetime.

School camps

Every Korowa student’s journey in outdoor learning begins with exciting, age-appropriate adventures.

In Junior School, students start with day camps at Toolangi and progress to overnight stays at Mount Eliza and Marysville, each experience fostering independence, confidence and resilience.

These smaller adventures lay the foundation for more immersive challenges in later years, preparing students to embrace Korowa’s signature programs like Trek and Quest in Year 9.

A rite of passage

Year 9 Trek

For more than 30 years, Trek has been a defining Korowa experience. This iconic four-week wilderness expedition takes Year 9 students from the Australian Alps to Ninety Mile Beach by foot, bike and raft.

Living and travelling together in small teams, students learn self-sufficiency, navigation and collaboration. They build leadership and interpersonal skills as they confront challenges, adapt to changing conditions and support one another.

Trek is a journey of endurance, discovery and shared achievement, a rite of passage that every Korowa alumna remembers.

Students work together on meaningful projects that benefit others, from environmental initiatives to local community partnerships. They learn to plan, problem-solve and collaborate, developing leadership, empathy and self-reliance.

Quest helps students understand their capacity to influence the world around them, and the satisfaction of making a genuine difference.

International exposure

Study tours

As students progress through Senior School, they have the opportunity to extend their learning through international study tours, including language immersion in France, Germany, Japan and China, as well as subject-focused experiences in art, literature and other disciplines.

These tours bring classroom learning to life in authentic settings, allowing students to experience first-hand what it means to be a global citizen. By living, learning and engaging abroad, students develop confidence, adaptability and a lifelong appreciation for other cultures.

How does Korowa ensure the safety and wellbeing of students during camps and international immersion programs?

The safety and wellbeing of students is our top priority. All camps and international programs are carefully planned with detailed risk assessments. Experienced staff, including trained first-aiders, accompany students on these trips to ensure they are well-supervised and supported. We also work with reputable travel partners and have established protocols in place for emergencies.

In addition, we provide students with clear guidelines and preparation in advance to ensure they understand the expectations for their conduct and wellbeing during the programs. Regular communication with parents is maintained throughout, ensuring peace of mind for everyone involved.

What kind of international immersion programs does Korowa offer, and how are they structured?

Korowa offers international immersion programs that provide students with an opportunity to experience different cultures, enhance their global awareness, and develop a deeper understanding of the world. These programs are integrated into the curriculum, with students engaging in cultural exchanges, community service, and language studies. Locations and specific activities vary, but the core purpose is to help students grow as global citizens, fostering empathy, cross-cultural communication, and a broader perspective on international issues. Students are carefully prepared for these experiences through orientation sessions that focus on cultural awareness, language skills, and safety.

What benefits do the Year 9 Trek and Quest experiences offer that traditional classroom learning cannot?

The Year 9 Trek and Quest experiences at Korowa offer unique opportunities that complement and enhance traditional classroom learning. These programs challenge students in real-world environments, where they must apply their problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork skills.
