The Korovian
Korowa's school magazine, The Korovian, is usually published twice a year and available in both print and digital formats. It celebrates our community, our values, and the stories that define us. Through articles, interviews, reflections and photographs, we capture the spirit of school life and the achievements of our students, staff and alumni.

Our cover features Korovian Jenna Stauch, an Olympian who brought home silver from the Paris 2024 Olympics. Late last year Jenna returned to Korowa to share her story with students and be a guest on our podcast series - Beyond the Gates. Jenna's story of perseverance, resilience, and balance between academics and elite sport is truly inspiring. Whether leading her House to victory as Swimming Captain or representing Australia on the world stage, Jenna embodies the Korowa spirit.

I must start by exhorting you to read about Trek. Our iconic program is 30 years old this year. Trek is unique. While other schools may have term or year long programs in remote locations, what we do tests the mettle and courage of every student who undertakes the program. A 30-day experience of sleeping outdoors, being in nature (literally embedded in the wild), hiking, canoeing, biking... for over a month. This is nothing like a seven or even 14 day camp. It is true immersion in an untamed wild environment...

In our cover story, the Korowa family tree described shows the myriad complex ways Korowa impacts the lives of so many people. I rarely go anywhere without someone saying to me 'my cousin's wife's brother-in-law's mother went to Korowa'... or something along those lines! There have been approximately 12,000 Korovians since we began our education journey at the school 134 years ago, and with the Class of 2023, another generation joins the Club's ranks.

Statistics show us that girls in single-sex environments regularly outperform their co-ed counterparts. Girls in single-sex schools do more maths and science, but what is not often known is that in a co-ed science or maths environment, data shows that even the best teacher interacts mroe with boys than with girls. Something that obviously does not happen at a single-sex school! This is what a girls' school does. It allows our students to grow into young women in an environment where they are free from stereotypes, in an environment where everything is designed for girls.

My start at the School was extraordinary with all parts of the community making me feel so welcome adn so much at home that I could not believe I had only been at the School for a few short weeks when Term 4 ended. People had told me what a special place Korowa is and I can only agree. It is a true community, filled with kindness, purpose, excellence in all endeavours and courage. It is a place where service to others and integrity is lived every day.
