Learning to Lead

Express. Connect. Shine.

Performing Arts at Korowa offers every student the opportunity to explore creativity, build confidence and connect with others through performance. From the earliest years to VCE, Drama and Dance provide powerful ways for girls to express ideas, tell stories and develop the communication and collaboration skills that shape confident young women.

Beyond the classroom, students can extend their interests through Junior and Senior Dance Clubs, join the Performing Arts Committee, and embrace other performance opportunities like the Korowa Lyrical Dance Competition Troupe. Together, these experiences create a vibrant performing arts culture where students can participate, lead and grow both on stage and behind the scenes.

Behind the scenes

Backstage

Across Korowa’s performing arts program, students also have many opportunities to experience the creativity and collaboration that happens behind the curtain. Through Middle and Senior School productions and the House Performing Arts Festival, students explore key production areas such as sound, lighting, costuming, stage management and stage handling, learning how technical elements bring performances to life.

Backstage teams are mentored by performing arts staff and industry professionals. These hands-on experiences develop practical skills, technical confidence and an understanding of teamwork in live performance environments. Students learn to problem-solve in real time, take responsibility and contribute meaningfully to shared creative outcomes.

In the curriculum, Year 9 and 10 Drama students engage with all aspects of theatre-making, working across acting and production roles to understand how performances are conceived, planned and delivered. Beyond the classroom, the Performing Arts Committee, led by the Drama Captain, supports showcases and events, building leadership, organisational and community engagement skills alongside their creative practice.

Student-led

House performing arts festival

The House Performing Arts Festival is a cornerstone of Korowa’s performing arts program, bringing together students from Years 7–9 and Years 10–12 in a dynamic, student-led celebration of creativity and collaboration. Working within their House groups, students design and present original performances that blend drama, dance, music and staging, guided by a shared theme.

At the heart of the festival is leadership. Students take on a wide range of roles, from directors, choreographers and performers to production, stage management and creative coordination. They learn how to plan, communicate and work collectively towards a shared outcome. These roles encourage responsibility, initiative and teamwork, as students mentor one another across year levels and contribute their individual strengths to the group.

Through the House Performing Arts Festival, students develop confidence, expressive skills and a strong sense of belonging. The experience reinforces that performance is as much about collaboration and leadership as it is about being on stage, offering students meaningful opportunities to lead, support others and bring creative ideas to life within a vibrant House community.
