Trek 2025: Principal Frances Booth visits Year 9 Trekkers on their final days

share

A powerful snapshot of the Year 9 Trek experience

Principal Frances Booth spent several days on the road this week, visiting all four Trek groups and seeing the Year 9 Trek experience in full motion. From river landings to Solo reflections, she witnessed the grit, joy and unstoppable spirit driving our Trekkers toward the finish line.

Group 3: river baths, roast dinners and shared stories

Frances began her visit with Group 3, who had paused for a much-needed reset. They spent the morning washing clothes, bathing and washing their hair in the river, and sorting supplies for the final leg. In the afternoon, the group came together to cook a full roast lamb dinner with roast vegetables. Frances joined them in meal prep and clean up, listening as the students shared the highs, hurdles and breakthroughs that have shaped their Year 9 Trek experience so far.

Group 4: fresh from Solo and ready for the river

Next, Frances caught up with Group 4 just as they returned from Solo. Spirits were high. Students spoke boldly about what they learnt, what challenged them and what surprised them. As they sorted their gear, they looked ahead to the last days on the river with excitement and confidence.

Group 2: beach landings, pumpkin pasta and deep reflection

At the campground, Frances found Group 2 packing up their rafts and wet gear after a big day at the beach. She joined them for an excellent pumpkin pasta dinner cooked entirely by the group.
Around the table, students reflected on their Trek journey, the lessons they’ll carry home, and what they’re grateful for. Then came the final task before tomorrow’s bus ride: the major clean up, tackled with teamwork and plenty of laughter.

Group 1: paddling in with celebration and determination

Driving toward Marlo, Frances spotted Group 1 paddling down the river beneath a bridge. She later saw them again at the landing, celebrating as they completed another huge milestone.
She helped them prepare dinner for the evening, cheering them on as they made homemade wrap pizzas before packing up their rafts and camp for their final night together.

Trek spirit in motion

Group 1’s arrival was met with cheers from Group 2, a moment that perfectly captured the camaraderie woven through the Year 9 Trek experience. Day 29 brought its own energy, with the organised chaos of packing up filling the campsite: bags stacked high, rafts slowly deflating and plenty of laughter carrying through the group.

A journey that builds courage, connection and character

Frances’ visit captured Trek at its best. Challenge embraced. Friendships strengthened. Growth sparked in every kilometre travelled.
We can’t wait to welcome all our Year 9 Trekkers home and hear the stories that shaped them.
