Opening of the Robin Wright Studio

On Thursday night we celebrated the opening of the Robin Wright Studio, named to honour the outstanding contribution made by the late Robin Wright in her 21 years at the school as Director of Music from 1964 to the end of 1984. Robin name is frequently mentioned fondly at reunions with past students remembering her elegance, high standards and passion for music in all of its forms.When the decision was made in 2023 to upgrade parts of the Margaret McPherson Centre that houses the Music School, including the renovation of this studio, it seemed appropriate to name this great space, that is alive with music every day, in honour of Robin.The renovation of the studio was made possible by the generosity of many Korovians who gave to the project in the Korowa Foundation Annual Giving Appeal in 2023 and we acknowledge and thank those Korovians for their great generosity. Their generosity is testament to the esteem in which Robin Wright was held.At the opening of the Robin Wright Studio we welcomed all sections of our community: current and past students, staff, and parents, and members of Robin’s family including her daughter Louise who came from Queensland for the occasion.The audience enjoyed performances from current students as well as the Korovian Choir comprising alumni, some of whom had been taught by Robin that added a poignancy to the evening.Perhaps the most moving part of the night was listening to reflections from past students concerning Robin.One past student shared:"I am remembering with great fondness the role and influence Robin Wright had as a private piano teacher and choral director. I loved every part of the music program, and though Robin was tough, and asked us to aspire to the highest standards, her teaching was the thread that held my sometimes-directionless education together. That she taught us to sing, and play, were the gifts I still value, and have passed to my children and grandchildren."Another:"She was a hero to me. Miss Wright was a strong and passionate woman with such a touch of class."The evening finished with the Korovian choir singing the classic ABBA’s Thank you for the Music – a fitting finale.
