Following months of hard work and dedication, three teams from Korowa participated for the first time in the F1 for School Victorian Competition. This global STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) competition requires teams to design, test and create miniature F1 cars capable of reaching speeds of up to 80km/hr. It is the world’s most competitive STEM competition, involving over 17,000 schools in 44 countries worldwide.
We are delighted to announce the outstanding achievement of our Year 10 team, Hypernova, who emerged as the Victorian State Champions in the Senior Professional Class of the prestigious F1 in Schools Competition. The competition took place on 24 – 27 October 2023 at Wyndham Tech School, where students from across the state showcased their innovation and engineering prowess.
The F1 in Schools Competition is renowned for its high standard of excellence, with the Senior Professional Class representing the highest level of competition, which includes students in Years 10-12. Hypernova’s victory positions them as the top team in their class, securing their spot to represent Victoria in the National Competition scheduled for March 2024 in South Australia. Their success is a testament to their unwavering dedication and hard work throughout the year.
Tessa P, serving as the Team Manager, led the extraordinary Hypernova team, which also included key members Elizabeth R (Manufacturing Engineer), Sarah W (Design Engineer), Annabel W (Graphic Designer), and Audrey Y (Resource Manager). Their collective efforts and unique skills were integral to their triumph.
Korowa’s participation in the F1 in Schools program has been driven by our commitment to provide students with practical, real-world applications of their learning.
“Korowa entered the F1 in Schools program to provide students with an opportunity to put their learning into practice, and it has been fantastic to see the students involved in the program really embrace what is one of the most challenging and complex STEM competitions in Australia and around the world. All our students performed strongly in their respective competition classes, but special congratulations must go to Hypernova, our team of Year 10s who became State Champions in not only their first competition but also Korowa’s first year participating in the program. An amazing effort and just reward for the incredible amount of work these students dedicated to the program!” – F1 in Schools Coordinator, Andrew Murray
Hypernova achieved a remarkable milestone as the only all-female team from Victoria competing in the Professional Class, serving as a source of inspiration for young women aiming to thrive in STEM disciplines.
In addition to Hypernova’s victory, we need to acknowledge another noteworthy achievement by our Development Class team, Undespacito, who received the “Best Managed Enterprise” award in their category. This prestigious award is presented to the team with the highest-scoring Enterprise Portfolio. The Enterprise Portfolio encompasses a range of topics such as team roles and tasks, project scope management, goal setting, time and financial management, risk management, internal communications, stakeholder engagement, skills development, and self-evaluation processes.
A huge congratulations to Hypernova, and our teams Undespacito and Astronomica for their outstanding accomplishments in their inaugural year participating in the F1 in Schools Competition. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to students across the school and reflect the commitment to excellence that defines the Korowa community.
