A Parents' Guide to Scholarships

What to expect
Understanding School Scholarships
For many families, the process of applying for secondary school scholarships can feel unfamiliar and overwhelming. Questions about scholarship testing, interviews, tutoring, school fit and academic expectations often arise all at once, usually at the same time families are beginning to think more seriously about the transition to secondary school itself.
What Are Schools Looking For?
While every school approaches scholarships differently, most school scholarship programs are designed to identify students who demonstrate strong academic potential, curiosity and readiness to embrace the opportunities offered by the school community. Scholarship tests and interviews are only one part of a much broader picture. Schools are also trying to understand which students are likely to grow, contribute and thrive within their environment over time.
Are Scholarship Applications Only About Test Results?
Families are often reassured to learn that scholarship applications are not about perfection. Interviews, activity days and scholarship testing processes are generally designed not to “catch students out”, but to better understand how students think, learn and engage with others.
