A gift in your Will

A lasting impact

Meaningful support for future generations

Leaving a gift to Korowa in your Will is a simple and meaningful way to support future generations of students. Many members of our community choose this form of giving because it allows them to make a lasting impact without affecting their circumstances today. These generous members automatically become part of the Jessie Patrick Bequest Society.

How to make a bequest

Here’s how to include Korowa in your Will so you can support future students and influence education at Korowa for generations to come.

What is a bequest?

A bequest is simply a gift written into your Will. It does not affect your finances during your lifetime, and can be changed at any time. Many people choose this form of giving because it allows them to make a lasting contribution in a way that is flexible and considered.

Types of bequests

Not all bequests are alike. Common gifts in Wills include:

  • A percentage of your estate
  • A specific sum of money
  • Property, shares, artwork or other assets
  • A gift that you direct to have put into scholarships, bursaries or another area of the School that matters to you

Suggested wording

Leaving a bequest does not need to be complex. One sentence like the following is perfectly acceptable:

“I give to Korowa Anglican Girls’ School Foundation (ABN 53 007 133 646) the sum of $… / …% of my estate, free of all duties, to be used for its general purposes.”

What if you already have a Will?

If you already have a Will, you don’t need to rewrite it to include Korowa. Your solicitor can simply add a short document called a "codicil," which is an amendment to your existing Will.

A codicil allows you to include a bequest to Korowa quickly and easily, without changing any other part of your Will.

A quiet but powerful tradition of care

Welcome to the Jessie Patrick Bequest Society

Everyone who chooses to leave a gift to Korowa in their Will is warmly welcomed into the Jessie Patrick Bequest Society, named in honour of Korowa’s very first student.

The Society reflects the deep sense of continuity that defines our School, past students, families and friends. Every member of the Jessie Patrick
Society is helping to shape the experience of girls who may never know their names, who but will benefit from their generosity.

Bequests to Korowa help support scholarships, bursaries, facilities and learning opportunities that ensure we can continue to offer an exceptional education to future generations. By including Korowa in your Will, you become part of this quiet but powerful tradition of care, connection and foresight within the Korowa community.

Members of the Jessie Patrick Bequest Society are acknowledged during their lifetime, allowing the School to express its gratitude and to celebrate the legacy they are choosing to create.

How bequests are used

What will your legacy be?

A gift in your Will is a lasting legacy and a way of remembering you long into the future, so it is important that you decide how it is used, and that you direct the positive difference you will make to girls in the future. For example:

  • You may direct your bequest to help fund scholarships and bursaries, ensuring that Korowa students continue to benefit from outstanding teaching by talented, motivated and highly-qualified teachers.
  • You may prefer to use your legacy to fund learning programs. Perhaps there is an area of study or co-curricular program that you are passionate about, and you want to create opportunities for students to learn, develop and excel in that area.
  • On the other hand, knowing that the learning environment and facilities can powerfully impact a child's experience and outcomes from learning, you may wish to direct your bequest towards new building works, important teaching equipment, facilities, or grounds.

By leaving a bequest to Korowa, you are helping to build the school of the future, and we are very happy to work with you to discuss the impact you wish to have and how you will be remembered.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to rewrite my Will to leave a bequest?

No. If you already have a Will, your solicitor can add a short document called a codicil, which is a simple amendment that allows you to include Korowa without changing the rest of your Will.

Can I choose what my bequest supports?

Yes. You may nominate an area of the School that is meaningful to you, such as scholarships, facilities or learning programs. You can also choose to leave your gift unrestricted so it can be directed to where it is most needed in the future.

Will Korowa know about my bequest during my lifetime?

Only if you wish to tell us. All conversations are confidential and without obligation. Many people choose to inform the School so they can be welcomed into the Jessie Patrick Bequest Society, but this is entirely your choice.

What if my circumstances change?

A bequest is completely flexible. You can change your mind or adjust your Will at any time.
