Korowa’s iconic gates on Ranfurlie Crescent have welcomed the community, connecting the past, present, and future. Since their installation, they’ve become woven into the very fabric of our School. For generations, these gates have stood as a symbol of strength and unity. It’s always striking to see that when Korovians visit or attend reunions, they instinctively seek a photograph in front of them, as though acknowledging the lasting bond they share with the School. These gates are not merely an entryway – they represent a powerful symbol of connection, community, and shared values.

The first image captures that connection. In the foreground stands Miss Beatrice K. Guyett, Principal from 1950 to 1969, guiding students toward a future shaped by strong values and a bold vision. She was known to pause at these very gates, using them as a moment to remind students that stepping through them meant stepping into responsibility. She encouraged them to think critically, act with integrity, and lead with purpose.

Installed in 1938, the gates were purchased by Miss Margaret Dickson, Principal from 1930 to 1949, who discovered them at an auction in East St Kilda. The gates’ crests were also commissioned by Miss Dickson and designed by Mrs Murray Dawson, Korowa’s Art and Craft teacher, adding a distinctive touch of artistry to the gates’ timeless design. These crests serve as a testament to the School’s commitment to craftsmanship, tradition, and the pursuit of excellence.

We share the replicated image featuring our tenth, and current Principal, Frances Booth as a powerful reminder that, while the world around us continues to evolve, our commitment to authentic growth, bold discovery, and lasting connection remains unwavering. Whether you are a current family, a dedicated staff member, or a proud Korovian, you are part of this enduring legacy – a story 135 years in the making and still unfolding.

As part of our 135th anniversary celebrations, we reflect on our ongoing commitment to educating girls to lead with purpose, just as generations of Korovians have done, passing through these very gates.
