At every phase of the Korowa journey, our students are encouraged to step outside the traditional classroom and experience learning in a range of contexts.

Year 3

Camp Manyung, Mount Eliza

The program involves girls participating in a wide range of outdoor experiences including kitchen gardening and food preparation, tree climbing and a flying fox. It aims to foster independence, develop social cohesion with peers, encourage an attitude of responsible risk taking and an appreciation of nature.

Year 4

Marysville, Lake Mountain

The program involves girls participating in a wide range of outdoor experiences including kitchen gardening, bouldering, low ropes course, bush walking and indigenous music. It aims to foster independence, develop social cohesion with peers, encourage an attitude of responsible risk taking and an appreciation of the natural environment.

Length: 2 nights

All Year 4 students participate in this trip.

Year 5 

Camp Jungai, Rubicon Valley, Victoria

With a strong emphasis on fun and adventure, this program is designed to assist students in connecting with the natural environment and developing excitement for exploring the great outdoors. The girls will sleep overnight in a tent on the Camp Jungai Oval for one of the nights. Daytime activities include canoeing, learning about indigenous tucker and medicine, a high ropes course and orienteering.

Year 6

Korowa to the Capital 

This trip to Australia’s capital city of Canberra is an opportunity for the girls to learn about aspects of Australia’s legal and political systems as well as to explore a range of significant national venues in the fields of the arts, science and sport.  Students develop increased self awareness as they experience interstate travel with their peers and discover some of the institutions that shape their daily lives.

Length: 3 nights

Year 7

Northern Territory / Top End

The purpose of the trip is to introduce girls to a range of aspects of indigenous culture in the context of the fascinating natural landscape of the Northern Territory. Throughout the experience girls participate in a range of activities with their peers designed to facilitate new friendships, strengthen existing ones and develop emotional intelligence.

Duration: 5 nights

Dates: February 2019

All Year 7 students participate in this Trip. 

 

 

NASA Junior Space Science School

In partnership with the California Association for STEAM Education (CASE) and NASA, the CASE Space School is an international study program aimed at developing students’ critical skills for success, providing higher order thinking and exposure to real-world problems.  Students visit Houston and Huntsville in the USA to participate in a range of enriched Earth and Space Science activities including immersion in Astronaut training at the U.S. Space and Rocket Centre.  The core focus is on fostering students’ personal development and growth as well as furthering their interest and knowledge in the application of STEAM.

Duration: 13 nights

Dates: June to July 2019

Cost: Approximately $9000 all-inclusive

This is an optional tour for up to 20 students from Years 7 and 8

  

Year 8

Far North Queensland/Cairns

This trip aims to develop an understanding of many aspects of eco-tourism and environmental sustainability.  It engages girls in a range of educational and social activities within Far North Queensland that facilitates their connections with each other as well as the flora and fauna of the natural tropical environment.  Eco-tourism and sustainability are a major theme of the activities in which the girls are involved throughout the experience.

Year 9

The Korowa Year 9 Program is designed to offer students a breadth of opportunities to cultivate their sense of self, responsibility and confidence. The highlight of the Year 9 Program is our suite of hands-on learning activities which broaden their world view and strengthen their understanding of themselves.

Project Empathy at City Cite

Project Empathy is a five-day experience that enables girls to focus on social justice issues within the urban environment of Melbourne CBD and surrounds.  Students work collaboratively in groups to explore perspectives on a targeted social justice issue, identifying  needs through the development of a heightened sense of empathy and develop design innovative solutions using technology and entrepreneurial skills.

Length: 5 days

Trek

Trek is a four week unique wilderness adventure where girls journey by foot, bike and raft through the Victorian high country. Trekkers live and work together in a small community of girls. Trek develops self-esteem, confidence, leadership and interpersonal skills as students learn to manage their emotional responses to difficult and stressful situations. They are encouraged to embrace physical exercise, eat healthily and foster positive relationships.

Duration: Four weeks

Dates: Term 4, 2019

Cost: $5000

Year 9 students choose from one of the three Year 9 Experiences.

Adventure Challenge

Adventure Challenge tests students’ physical and mental endurance - but they’ll have a lot of fun doing it! Activities include stand-up paddle boarding, rock climbing, cycling, canoeing and hiking. During weeks 1 and 2, students start and finish their adventures from School, except for one overnight hike. Then in week 3, students are bound for Taggerty in the Lake Eildon region where they spend a week at a caravan base camp putting the skills they’ve learned into action! Students can also choose to complete their Certificate 2 in Outdoor Recreation at an additional cost.

Duration: Three weeks

Urban Life: Women Speaking

Urban Life: Women Speaking is a unique social service experience where students travel across Melbourne and Sydney, exploring the concept of 'home’ and what that means to different people. They explore social and economic issues faced by women in Australia by researching, meeting and interviewing women from many different walks of life. Students are challenged to critically analyse their beliefs and values against others to see the world from different perspectives.

Duration: Three weeks

Dates: Term 4, 2019

Year 9 students choose from one of the three Year 9 Experiences.

Year 10

Cambodia Service Learning Journey

The Cambodian Service Learning Journey is a unique opportunity for Year 10 girls to challenge their own views of themselves and others, deepen their awareness of the nature of resilience when facing adversity, and to understand their authentic social responsibility whilst remaining respectful of difference and diversity.  The girls serve the community supported by the Cambodian Children’s Fund and the people of Cambodia by setting goals, developing plans, taking action and realising the impact they can have on global issues.

French Language Exchange Program

Girls immerse themselves in French language and culture by living in France for a period of 3 weeks.  The girls are hosted by a French family and attend a French school in Bordeaux on a regular basis with local students.  They also undertake a range of excursions whilst in France to sites of cultural significance.

Length:            25 nights

Dates:              November/December 2019

Students:         Years 10 and 11 student applicants

Cost of Trip:     Approx. $3500

German Language Exchange Program

The program provides the opportunity for girls to immerse themselves in the German language and culture by living in Bogen, Germany for a period of 3 weeks.  The girls are hosted by a German family and attend school at the Veit-Hoser-Gymnasium on a regular basis with local students.  They also undertake a range of excursions whilst in Germany to sites of cultural significance.

Dates:              November/December 2019

Students:         Years 10 and 11 student applicants

Cost of Trip:     Approx. $3900

Chinese Language Exchange Program

Girls immerse themselves in Chinese language and culture by living in Shanghai. The girls are hosted by the High School Affiliated to Fudan University and stay in accommodation at the Qingpu Campus.  They attend school on a regular basis with local students whilst also undertaking excursions of cultural significance during their experience.

Length:            16 nights

Students:         Years 10 and 11 student applicants

Japanese Language Exchange Program

Girls immerse themselves in Japanese language and culture by living in Japan for a period of 3 weeks.  The girls are hosted by a Japanese family and regularly attend the Hikarigaokajoshi Girls’ High School in Okazaki with local students.  They also undertake a range of excursions whilst in Japan to sites of cultural significance.

Length:            21 nights
