Korowa Trek and Urban Adventure
The Outdoor Education program at Korowa forms a sequential foundation of skills and experiences for students in Years 6-9. The aim of the program is to develop the girls' skills and knowledge over the three years leading to a culminating experience in Year 9 where students are offered a choice of a month long Wilderness or Urban Adventure.
In the Urban Adventure, students spend a month exploring Melbourne, navigating the public transport system and experiencing independent life in a city. Problem-solving, resilience and team-building are strongly emphasised in both programs, with students experiencing life as an independent person in the community - be it the CBD or a country town.
For our students, the Trek and Urban experience is life-changing and inspiring:
"Trek was one of the best thing I have ever done - experiencing different things like being in the snow, falling out of boats into the Snowy River and being around a campfire surrounded by my friends are just some of the many memories I have. You don't fully appreciate Trek until you are home in your own bed and that is when what you have accomplished really sinks in."
"I discovered that I can do anything I put my mind to. I can climb up mountains, cook, put up a trap and tie knots. If I had this opportunity again, I probably wouldn't do anything differently I have learnt to stay positive and in the solo parts that it's nice to be alone sometimes and you don't always have to be with people to enjoy yourself."

Year 9 - Korowa Trek - Expedition - Kosciuszko to Marlo
Year 9 - Urban Journey - Murray River
The Korowa Trek is held in the last five weeks of Term 4.
This year it will run from November 5 through to December 6 and will be conducted in the areas of the Snowy Mountains, the Pilot Wilderness area, the Snowy River and the 90 Mile Beach at Marlo, Gippsland.
The journey commences with a twelve day bushwalk through the Jagungal and Pilot Wilderness areas.
The "solo" time takes place at this point when Trek students will participate in a period of reflection time in the natural environment known as "solo". This time allows students to spend a period of time by themselves away from their group.
After the solo. trekkers set off cycling toward the Snowy River. Inlatable canoes are then used to paddle across the border and down the Snowy. Trekkers change to hard shelled canoes to afford better speed through the flat waters.
Finally after a months of travelling under their own power on foot, bike and boat, the Trekkers will arrive at the end of the river, their journey coming to an end on the beach at Marlo.
