Use of Technology
Learning at Korowa takes place within the context of a digital environment and Korowa students leave the School with high levels of technological literacy. From our smallest students in Beginners, through to VCE, Korowa provides a technology model that suits the changing learning needs of our students.
Students have access to Learning Technologies from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) onwards. The use of information and communication technology is an integral part of our learning program and used as a tool across many areas of the curriculum.
From navigating through computer programs and creating artwork in the ELC, to using Web Cams and Interactive Whiteboards in Year 5, students progressively develop their expertise so they are well prepared for the notebook computer program, which commences in Year 6.
From Year 6 to Year 10, the notebook is a major tool for the adventurous and exploratory learning occurring in these years. Computer purchase or hire, insurance and warranty at competitive prices are also part of Korowa's computing program. The Computer Service Centre provides technical support and maintenance.
Students in Years 11 and 12 use information technology to supplement their knowledge acquisition. However, because we believe students must also be confident in their non-technological communication skills, particularly in the academic arena, notebooks are not a requirement during these years.
Wireless technology facilitates ready access to Koronet, the School's virtual private network (VPN) which operates as an intranet for Korowa community users. Remote access is available outside Korowa via a home computer allowing students and staff access to files on the School's server. An extensive array of educational software and subscription databases is available through the network. Koronet also stores valuable resources such as classroom lessons, teacher/student discussion pages, multimedia learning resources, subject specific web links and other online information.
