Senior School

Senior School

The senior years are a time of great opportunity and achievement. Students are challenged to reflect on their own learning styles and processes and to be active in their own learning. Cultural exchanges, leadership positions and teamwork opportunities are abundant and senior students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities.

Led by Ms Sue Paice, Deputy Principal and Head of the Senior School, the Senior School aims to prepare students for success in the VCE and beyond.

All Year 9 students study English, Mathematics (or Accelerated Mathematics), Science, one or more language other than English, Physical Education, Geography, History, Healthy Living and Religious Education.  They also choose three subjects offered from a range in each of the Drama, Music and Visual Arts areas.  Year 9 students participate in a personal development program and undertake cross-curricular learning journeys in real life contexts.

In Year 9 students also leave the classroom behind for five weeks and take part in one of two life-changing programs; the Korowa Trek or the Urban Adventure.

The formal Careers program commences in Year 9.

Year 9 students have the opportunity to be leaders in the House Arts Festival. This festival provides a performance outlet for musicians, actors and dancers. Year 9 students are responsible for the writing of the script, choreography of any dance routines and the writing of lines for actors.

Korowa's Year 10 curriculum provides a strong foundation and thorough preparation for the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) through a challenging, enjoyable and stimulating program.  All Year 10 students complete English, Physical Education, Personal Development and Careers Education, Science and Mathematics (an array of mathematics subjects are offered including VCE Mathematical Methods Units 1 and 2; all Year 10 mathematics subjects have a pathway to VCE).  Remaining subjects are drawn from an extensive list of electives which include languages other than English and VCE Unit 1 and 2 studies.

At VCE level, students can choose from around 40 subjects from Accounting to Art; Dance to Drama; Music Performance to Maths; Legal studies to Literature; Psychology to Physics; Religious Education to Renaissance History.

Korowa achieves remarkable and consistent excellence in our students' academic performance, always in the top 3% of Victorian schools for its VCE results. We do not emphasise any area of study over another, believing that flexibility in individual programming and access are the keys in helping girls to realise their potential and achieve success.

We offer first year university studies as well as access to Vocational Education and Training (VET) to meet student needs.

The destinations of Korowa graduates are as varied and interesting as the girls themselves. They choose their own path and write their own success story.

The Senior School at Korowa Anglican Girls' School operates on a 10 day timetable.  Each day commences with a class gathering and roll call at 8.25am which all girls attend.  Classes conclude at 3.15pm.

There is an expectation that students will undertake a regular homework program during the year.  However, Korowa also strongly encourages all girls to pursue a range of interests and co-curricular activities.
