Korowa Anglican Girls' School

Book lovers' parade to inspire love of literature

Korowa’s Junior School paid tribute to some of literature’s most enduring characters in a colourful parade of book characters held during Book Week 2011 (22-26 August).

One of the longest running children’s festivals in Australia, Book Week is run by the Children’s Book Council of Australia.

More than 150 Korowa Junior School students from the Early Learning Centre (three & four-year-old kindergarten) through to Year 5, along with their teachers, came to school dressed as their favourite book character.

Throughout the week, classes included a range of literary-themed activities. The Head of Junior School, Mrs Sharyne Rankine, also held ‘storytime’ sessions each morning across a number of classrooms in the Junior School during the week.

In the lead-up to festivities, students have focused on book titles shortlisted by the Children’s Book Council and explored the books’ themes through group art projects.
