Performing Arts
Korowa enjoys presenting a wide range of performing arts programs each year. Here, all girls are encouraged to participate in the performing arts. The approach is aligned with our philosophy that girls should be actively encouraged to try new experiences, including being on stage. In addition to the Drama, Music and Instrumental Music programs embedded in our core curriculum, performing arts opportunities abound, as do opportunities to be involved in dance, composition and more.
Assemblies normally include musical performances by soloists or groups and students are encouraged to take an active role in the presentations for assemblies. We regard proficiency in public speaking to be an important skill for girls to acquire. Therefore, speaking in front of a class, a year level or the entire school is required of many students on occasion.
In addition, many classes utilise drama as a vehicle for teaching the traditional curriculum. For example, Year 8 students participate in an Elizabethan Festival each year, Year 7 students perform Homer’s Odysseus as part of their history studies and the annual Middle School Tournament of the Minds typically involves role play as part of the presentation to the broader group.
At Korowa, we seek to build our Performing Arts community where students and past students and teachers work together to create productions and concerts. We are not only focused on the finished product but also the creative process.

FOPA (Friends of Performing Arts) is a parent association that also provides help and support with fundraising, front of house and many other important duties.
