Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education is an important part of the overall education of students at Korowa. The sequential program is planned and run by Korowa staff working in close association with the Outdoor Education Group (OEG), a private company of specialist educators.

Outdoor Education provides girls with a range of activities outside their usual environment, so that they learn to face challenges in an atmosphere which requires self-reliance and independence. As students work in small groups they also further develop their co-operative group skills and tolerance. The activities undertaken encourage them to use their initiative and to take responsibility for their own and the group's actions.

At Korowa, camping begins in Year 2 with a school sleepover and older girls camp outdoors for more extended periods each year.

The five week Korowa Trek offered to Year 9 girls is a highlight of the School's Outdoor Education program.  This journey from the mountains in the Victorian Alps to the coast challenges students to become more self sufficient and confident in their own abilities.

Korowa is a registered Duke of Edinburgh school and, working in collaboration with Combined Schools Project of Girls Sport Victoria, guides interested VCE students to appropriate outdoor expeditions and activities which enable the girls to gain Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards.
