Korowa girls plan a Big Day In for Bangladesh buddies

Next Wednesday 9 September, Korowa Anglican Girls' School students will ditch the uniform for a day and come to school as characters from Grease, Wizard of Oz, Fame and The Sound of Music to raise money for Korowa's school in Bangladesh.

Organised by Year 12 student leaders, the annual fundraising event, Big Day In, transforms the school grounds into a carnival atmosphere with jewellery, food and gift stalls culminating in a fashion parade. Last year's Big Day In raised almost $7,000 for the Korowa School in Bhola Island, Bangladesh, to help support the 300 students who would otherwise have no opportunity for an education.

The event is also a showcase for entrepreneurial students, who work closely together to devise fundraising ideas and products - from handmade eye-catching jewellery to a student-staffed gourmet cafe.

The Big Day In is one aspect of Korowa's Social Service program, which encourages all students to play an active role in their community through weekly class giving programs and class-run events such as car washes and sweets stalls that raise funds for class-chosen charities.
