Gallery Ranfurlie

10 March 2009

Laurie Andrews, former Head of Mathematics at Korowa, exhibited her exquisite drawings and watercolours in Gallery Ranfurlie this past week.
Laurie's work is valuable documentation because of her accuracy in portraying plants. It is also a record of many endangered species.  More recently, the fern gullies of South Gippsland she portrays are from her farm near Churchill which was under threat from bush fires. In the week leading up to the exhibition, Laurie was busy at the farm moving livestock to protect them from the fires.
The exhibition was a timely reminder of the incredible beauty of this area and also its fragility.
As part of the exhibition, Laurie provided a demonstration of her drawing, painting techniques for students and was also available to discuss the links between mathematics and her meticulous drawings.
The opening of the exhibition on Tuesday 3 March was well patronised by many ex-staff who were colleagues of Laurie's from her time as Korowa's Head of Mathematics.  Pictured with Laurie is Korowa's Arts Captain for 2009, Leah Mc Intosh who spoke at the opening and Mrs Christine Jenkins, Principal, who welcomed the artist and guests.
