Korowa Responds to the Bushfire Disaster

11 February 2009

A letter of advice for parents has been sent home with children in ELC and Junior School today so they have some ideas about how to reassure younger children.
The school held a a Prayer Service earlier this week for all students from Year 3 - 12 and staff. Support will be provided for anyone in need of this.
We have begun to collect items of stationery to assist students and schools. Collection boxes have been set up around the school. We will deliver the collected items to a suitable agency for distribution to those affected.
On Friday 13 February, Staff are holding a Fundraising Breakfast, open to all Korowa Staff.
On Friday 13 February, students will be invited to wear casual clothes to School, for the cost of a gold coin donation (at least, we hope more). This is part of a Stonnington schools initiative and other schools in the area will also join in.
Part of the profit from the K-Carnival on 27 February will be donated to the Bushfire Relief Appeal. Our School Counsellor and our Assistant Chaplain are happy to advise parents and they can both be contacted at Korowa during school hours.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected in some way by this tragedy - those who have lost family members or friends, those injured, those who have lost their homes or pets. We also recognize the bravery of those who have helped to fight the fires or to support those affected. In coming days we will continue to pray for those whose homes and livelihoods are still under threat. Please contact the School if you need support or if you have suggestions about ways the School can assist others.

With best wishes,
Christine Jenkins
