Leadership Opportunities

Leadership Opportunities

At Korowa we believe that girls are more likely to grow up to be confident and successful when they feel intrinsically valued in their own right.  This fundamental philosophy underpins all we do.

Korowa girls learn from the onset that their voice and opinion are valued and relevant.  Because they don't have to compete with often large numbers of boys to be heard in the classroom, they more readily contribute to their own learning and they grow up confident and with a high level of self-worth.

(We do recognise that it is important to have some interaction with the opposite gender throughout life.  Apart from the interactions which occur at home or during leisure pursuits, Korowa girls regularly spend time with boys from local schools during various School activities.)

All girls are encouraged to undertake leadership roles throughout their time at Korowa.  The roles may be formally recognized roles, such as School Captain or Class Captain, or more subtle, such as leading their reading discussion group in the classroom, operating as a mentor for a younger student or captaining a team during physical education.  All roles are equally valued.  We recognize that leadership qualities can be demonstrated by the quietest student when given the right opportunities.

Students in Years 7 - 12 participate in the Students Representative Council and the Social Service Committee through their elected class representatives.  The School Captain and the Social Services Captain respectively chair each committee.

Students are actively encouraged to take on leadership roles in all aspects of Korowa's performing arts programs including, for example, in Year 9, taking on all roles involved in delivering a successful House Arts performance.

Palm Leaf, the school magazine, is written, edited and published by a committee of students, led by the student editors.
