Benefits of Girls Only
It's the combination of community, culture and climate that have made girls' schools so successful in transforming the lives of young women. Expectations are high, opportunities abound, role models are plentiful, and accomplishment is a value cherished at every level. So it's no surprise that single-sex education for girls is such a prominent feature of today's educational landscape. The research -- as well as the history of achievement -- is there to back it up.
At Korowa we believe that girls are more likely to grow up to be confident and successful when they feel intrinsically valued in their own right. This fundamental philosophy underpins all we do.
More and more research is showing that girls achieve and learn better in girls-only schools. Every girl deserves the opportunity to realize her full potential, to draw forth her talents and discover new ones, in a setting where she is valued for who she is and what she brings to the experience. This is what we offer at Korowa.
We believe that it is important that girls learn from the outset that their voice and opinion is valued and relevant. Because they don't have to compete with boys to be heard in the classroom, Korowa girls are more likely to contribute to their own learning and to grow up confident with a high level of self-worth.
Similarly Korowa girls don't have to fight for recognition on the sporting field, or in any other competitive endeavour. Every girl gets the chance to shine at Korowa and all successes, no matter how small, are cherished.
Korowa girls have a diverse range of positive role models. Here, the School Captain, the top maths student and the best athletes are all girls. And it's OK to be smart at Korowa. In fact, all achievements are celebrated, no matter how big or how small.
This does not mean Korowa girls are sheltered from real life. In fact, the opposite is true. Our students are challenged to expand their intellectual, social and emotional boundaries on a daily basis.
We also recognise that it is important to interact with boys throughout childhood and adolescence. Apart from the interactions which occur at home or during leisure pursuits, Korowa girls regularly spend time with boys from local schools during musical productions, inter-school debates and other purposeful activities.
