About Korowa
Since 1890 Korowa has been preparing remarkable young women to take their place in the world and make a positive impact. Its motto, "Palma Non Sine Pulvere" variously translated as "No Palms without Grit!", "No Reward Without Effort" or "Dare to try!" signals a school willing to work hard, and to step out and lead.
In recent years, the School has increasingly applied the insights of current research into brain physiology, multiple intelligences and styles of learning, to develop new teaching and learning processes, which are far more student-centred. Students are challenged to reflect on their own learning styles and processes and to be active in their own learning.
The 'Landscape for Learning' reflects the School's new understanding of what makes a powerful, happy and effective environment for learning.
[Year 6 is the entry year for the Notebook computer program, and the notebook has become a major tool for the adventurous and exploratory learning occurring in these years. Korowa students leave the School with high levels of technological literacy. ]
Trek and Urban - Learning Leadership and Decision-Making
"Dare to try!" pervades the School from the youngest to the oldest, students and staff alike. This is the origin of Korowa's well-known Urban Adventure and Trek for Year 9 girls. Both provide girls with a theatre to test their resourcefulness, their capacity to solve problems and to work together productively. Girls need these qualities in abundance in the Trek, when in five weeks they cross the State of Victoria from north to south, summit to sea, on foot, mountain bike, canoe and raft. They need these skills as they negotiate their way around their City in the Urban Adventure, testing their leadership and decision-making skills.
Outstanding Results
The 2007 results have bettered the school's 2006 results when it was ranked equal third in the State for VCE results based on median VCE scores.
An extremely strong year in 2007 also included the following results:
- Around three quarters of our students achieved an ENTER or 85 or higher.
- 45% of all study (subject) scores were graded as A+
- 85% of all study (subject) were graded as B+ or higher
- There were perfect study (subject) scores in English, Japanese, Psychology, Biology and Health and Human Development
Korowa congratulates all our VCE girls on their fantastic achievements.
The School has an admirable academic and ecumenical partnership with Sacré Coeur, an independent Catholic girls' school right next door. Together, the schools are able to provide a very broad range of VCE studies, as students from each school have the option to study a subject at the other school.
Just the Right Size
With around 700 students, Korowa has the advantage of being able to offer your daughter a wide range of educational opportunities and activities and we are also small enough to know and value everyone for their individual talents and personality.
Korowa is one of Melbourne's nine independent Anglican girls' schools. All of these schools proudly offer a collective commitment to the education of girls in the Anglican tradition. Anglican girls' schools are proud of the achievements of their students, of their strong tradition and values and the opportunities they provide. At Korowa, each student is encouraged to have a "dare to try" attitude, realise her strengths and become a competent, positive and contributing member of society.
Every Student Belongs
Korowa offers a huge range of sport, music, speech and drama, creative arts and other activities and clubs, giving every student the chance to join in and belong. Music is deeply embedded in school life and exquisite in quality. The school produces its own in-house dramas and musicals, and invites neighbouring boys' schools such to join it for other productions. Korowa has a strong reputation in traditional sports like swimming, athletics and netball and we are just as passionate and excited for our students who take up surf lifesaving, snowsports, diving or rowing. Great habits begin early in life.

The School enjoys a pleasant and compact campus with Early Learning Centre, Junior, Middle and Senior School , VCE Centre including study areas and café, newly opened Theatre and Library and Information Resources Centre, Visual Art Centre, the Cripps Centre for Years 6, 7 and 8, gymnasia and a 25m heated indoor swimming pool.
