Getting Involved in our 120th Anniversary Celebrations
If you'd like to do more than just attend Korowa's 120th anniversary community events, here are some opportunities for you to be more involved in the celebrations. We'd love your help! Simply completing the form on the right of this page and return it to the School. We'll be in touch soon thereafter. Alternatively please contact one of the 120th Anniversary Co-ordinators, Wendy Lawler and Annie Sterck, to discuss your area of interest.
We would welcome participation by all community members in some activities, such as the Korowa Quilt Challenge and the 2010 School Concert. Other activities are especially for Korovians (alumni).
Be an Ambassador for Your Year (For Korovians only)
Korovian Ambassadors will play a key role in ensuring all members of their year are aware of Korowa's festivities and encouraging them to join in.
Whilst we are not intending the role will be terribly time consuming, we envisage ambassadors might:
- help the School track down Korovians for whom we no longer have a current address
- organize a specific time for the group to meet up on the Community Day
- organize a get together before or after the Community Day, or identify another person in the year group to do so. (Especially important if you have people from interstate or overseas travelling to the event.)
- organize a year group table for the K-Ball, or identify another person in the year group to do so
If you have stayed in touch with many of your Korowa friends, or would like to renew your acquaintance with them, you, or you and a friend, might be interested in this role.
Calling All Performers and Backstage Experts (For all members of the community)
Korowa's 2010 School Concert promises to be a night of filled with fun and entertainment. Incorporating music, dance and drama, we invite all community members to this exciting event.
Whilst the full program is still being determined, we are hoping to include performances by Korovians on the night. If you would like to register your interest for participating either on or off stage on the night, we'd love to hear from you.
Expressions of Interest - Momentum (For Korovians only)
The journey from school student to professional expert can take many paths. Our 2010 Art Exhibition - Momentum - will celebrate the voyages of practicing visual artists, from their time at Korowa to the present.
If you are both a Korovian and a practicing visual artist, and you would like to participate in this exhibition please submit your expression of interest to the School. Students studying visual art at tertiary level are also invited to submit an expression of interest.
Honoring Traditional Crafts - Korowa Quilt Challenge and Historical Craft Exhibition (For all members of the community)
We invite all members of our community to participate in the Korowa Quilt Challenge. Make a quilt, or just a block; work by yourself or as part of a group - it's up to you. Our only requirements are that you include a piece of our summer uniform material (which we will provide) and, ideally, the quilt has some reference to Korowa's history. The quilts will be displayed on our community day in March 2010. Contact us to register your interest and we'll provide you with more details, plus all the assistance you need to get started.
Our community day will include an exhibition of historical crafts. If you still have pieces of craft you created at Korowa, or craft items of historical value (such as older quilts, embroideries or similar), we'd like to borrow them for the day. Please contact us to discuss your contribution.
Historical Trail (For all members of the community)
One of the highlights of the year will be the proposed Historical Trail to be developed within Korowa. The aim is to re-create some areas and programs of the School to show the way they were in years gone past. The Trail will be open to community members during our Community Day.
There are two ways you can help us with this exciting project:
- contribute to the planning and organization of the Trail - tell us about your memories of the School, help us source memorabilia, work with others in putting the exhibitions together
- donate or lend School memorabilia to Korowa for use in the Trail. If you have any items which you think might help in the recreation of an old style classroom, the Prefect's Study, the playground, domestic science programs, sporting programs and more, then please contact us.
Request for Vintage Items
Korowa students will create a variety of items during the year, as part of the 120th anniversary program. We are calling for donations of ‘all things vintage' which the children might find useful in their creative endeavours. If you have vintage material, buttons, swap cards, magazines, books, games, lace, jewellery (non-precious), knick knacks and bric-a-brac, postcards, birthday cards, children's picture books or other odds and ends which you could donate to the School, please contact us. The children will appreciate your support.
Dressed for Success
At various times throughout 2010, Korowa students will be ‘transported' back to earlier days through curriculum based activities. Some of these would be significantly enhanced if the girls were able to wear the uniform of the era they were studying. If you have pieces of older Korowa uniforms you no longer wish to keep, we would love to receive them. Hopefully we will be able to outfit all the girls in a class in the same ‘older' uniform at the same time. Please contact us to let us know what you have, or simply send in your items.
